Designed for the Done family in the 1980s by Glenn Murcutt AO, Australia’s most internationally acclaimed architect and winner of the Alvar Aalto Medal and Pritzker Architecture Prize.
The house has undergone an extensive sympathetic renovation, project managed by Cadmium Property and in consultation with Murcutt, to fulfill his original vision.
“I eschew the moment, I eschew the fashion. I am not at all interested in the architecture of shouting or novelty, none of that…Walking into the house today, restored beautifully, you’d think it’s a recent design.” Glenn Murcutt, 2024
The house perches atop Chinaman’s Beach, the hidden gem in Sydney’s Middle Harbour, and takes advantage of the panoramic water views, whilst also retaining a sense of privacy, with a tranquil internal courtyard and jewel-like pool. The restoration has maintained many of the original features designed by Murcutt, including cabinet hardware and a custom pedestal in the master bath that echoes the design of the rest of the house.
